Wong! It can be replaced despite what others might tell you including Thermador. I just replaced the worn out microwave in my 9/yr old SMW 272 with Thermador's model MBES/01 microwave. It is the exact same microwave that is in there now with just some minor updates. It is a simple process to remove and replace. Any competent repair person should be able to do it. The only downside is the price $730 list.
